To promote the education and welfare of disadvantaged students in the high schools of Asheville City and Buncombe County.
What We Do
The Children's Welfare League helps low-income high school students stay in school by providing a monthly allowance.
These students have been selected from recommendations submitted by school guidance counselors. They are selected on the basis of financial need and their desire to achieve scholastically. The funds are used by the recipient – usually for clothing, books, medical expenses or other necessities.
In 2001, the CWL established and is currently endowing a scholarship at Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College. In 2006, the CWL endowed a scholarship at the University of North Carolina at Asheville.
2014 Mardi Gras Ball
Each year, we hold one fundraising event. Our goal is to raise sufficient funds to continue to provide support to our low-income high school students.
